Tricky Aerangis fastuosa x citrata--Help? Male
Question Tricky Aerangis fastuosa x citrata--Help?

About 3 or 4 months ago I went to a flower show in Boston Mass, and was able to find an orchid vendor there. After looking around I chose an Aerangis fastuosa x citrata. It was in poor health, but I got it to push out a leaf (after it dropped two) and now it has stopped growing and is just maintaining its size Its in a south facing greenhouse with high humidity of upwards of 80%. I'm watering it when the sphagnum it is in is slightly dry. I've tried many potting methods because I think the issue is the roots. It just does not have any substantial roots and there is only one new one growing.

I don't know about others, but I have an Aerangis citrata, and it's a slooooow grower ... Has gotten one leaf per year the couple of years I have had it. And only has grown foliage in spring to early summer, I think ...

I think I have read that Aearangis are generally slow growers, so patience is likely necessary

Hopefully others will chime in with advice and opinions!

The pics are of when you bought it? how do you have it potted now. All the Aerangis I have I grow mounted on tree fern or cork. Their roots need very good circulation. I do not use sphagnum on the mouts either.

i don't really know about the citrata or fastuosa,
but i am in complete love with angracoids. as per my experience, plants DO LOVE to be mounted more than in a pot.

i do grow other aerangis, (getting citrata & pumilla (hyladoides) during my next visit to California (sept 9) .

i do grow around 9 different species of aerangis, and based on my observation and conditions, high humidity + good airflow + around 1800FC of light encourage vegetative growth, on mine. besides the spiculata that is QUITE SLOW GROWER for me the rest seems to be growing quite fast, , some of them are already spiking(biloba, macrocentra, luteoalba).

i am also looking for Aerangis fastuosa too!! so if anyone knows of a vendor within the US. please let me know!

Antonio.
