droopy catt blooms
Hi everyone,
My catt bloomed 4 days ago, but the blooms have not perked up. Could you tell me why, please? It bloomed once in the past with *very slightly* droopy blooms...not this bad, though. The plant is in S/H, but I can't imagine how that would make any difference at all. Just thought I'd mention it.
I would appreciate your input and advice as to what I may have done wrong as it was growing to cause this,
Vicki

The blooms are too heavy for the stem. Sometimes the green sheath opens too soon and permits the blooms to droop. It isn't anything you did wrong, just stake it more upright.

If it's in Semi hydroponic medium then I'm pretty sure its not the watering is it??? The first thing I thought was that it was dehydrated, but that seems unlikely considering the medium used..... perhaps this variety of cattleya has weak flower stems and needs to be staked up for proper viewing. I've never had this happen to my cats before, so I'm not sure what to say.

I agree with, Brooke. The flowers are too big and heavy for the spike. I have many cattleyas that always need to be staked because they droop like that. Just stake them and they should look great.

Thank you, everyone!
I had already staked it with a skewer, so I clipped the blooms to the sheath after I read your replies. I hope that was ok ??
By the way, the orchid is Blc Ports of Paradise 'Emerald Isle'. Very fragrant, a nice scent in my greenhouse. :>)
Thanks again,
Vicki

Thank you. With good care and patience as they grow, I'm sure yours will be very pretty one day. Be sure to post pictures of them when they bloom.
