Thanks so much, definitely better price than I found, I found cheapest for $500. However here they say intermediate to warm, again confused, I read on other webs when searching this one warm to hot, even direct sun. Also, it supposedly takes like 10-15 years be4 it blooms, wow:-) amazing plant!

I've been in the hobby for 2-3 years and have spent over $1,000. My most expensive plant- Paph. sanderianum for $125, it's worth more than that, probably around $150-$200. I have my eye on a Paph that's in the thousands, might cut into savings... :) I love the brachy and parvi type paphs but sometimes really good quality ones are harder to find in the US. Easy to find in SE Asia, they've even fed some to pigs!!! And I'm having a horrible time trying to find Paph. hangianum, anyone know of any? Seems like I'm always on the hunt for that last rare orchid...

Al's Orchid Greenhouse has it...or had it a month ago. I got one last month during a visit, and I noticed there were only a few left. They were small seedlings for $10 each, and would take about 10 years (?) to reach blooming size.

Many thanks, that 10 years wait scares me little it. I wonder how big is the one offered by Botanicaltd:-)

Can't help with the ducks but I sent some seed of Diuris sulphurea along with a few other Australian species to Troy Meyers a few months ago as a favour for a friend in the US. I don't know what the germination rate was like but they look to have germinated most of the species and are taking requests for flasks.

hmmm good question and post!!!! I have 11 orchids currently that I spent 20-30 dollars each on so that's 330 plus the shipping (which was overnight for each order). It was about 50-70 dollars a shipment. I had 6 shipments of plants so that's about $360 on shipping. Therefore Over a year I've spent around $690 on plants that I've kept alive; not counting the plants I've killed. Then of course there is the price of the metal halide light which was $250 the humidifiers which were $40 dollars each, the tank which was $30, and the three fans which were around 30 dollars each... The grand total ( drum roll please ) $1,110 over about two years....you guys beat me because mine was more spread out.

Hmm, thanks God I did count only last few months, If I would calculate last 2 years, we are talking about one used car for sure! Rather not even think about it! But my plants make me more happy than used car. We have also 2 doggies, our babies, both of them went through so much, surgeries, he is worth over $26000 on medical bills (as a puppy he had liver shunt - just that one sucked $15000), she is over $10000, again surgeries. I would rather spend all my money on LIVE THINGS, like my doggies, and plants, than on fancy car - therefor we still drive our good old toyota corolla:-))))
