We usually hit at least -30F once a winter. That's -34C for you weirdos out there. I have to box up all my plants in the winter, not for humidity but for heat.

Hehe, that's light jacket weather here in Saskatchewan. Once you get to around -10*C (14*F) a lot of people just wear bunny hugs and such. Although I do love cooler weather (17*C or 62.6*F with sun and slight breeze is a perfect day), orchids unfortunately don't, so there isn't all too much weather warm enough to mail order orchids.

I like the idea of adding what you're growing in your signature block, but there's a spot for your location in the info that goes above the post... I know some people are really private about where they live, but if they're going to be asking for growing advice, it doesn't seem like it'd be too much to ask of them to include a state/region.

I've always been very private about where I live... that's why all I say is Midlands UK, or more recently I've made that more accurate by saying West Midlands.
I don't think anyone should be worried about giving the region or county, or state or whatever is appropriate to understand their growing conditions. I'm a very private person (very shy in real life as well) and have a tendency not to share much.
I thought about this when I joined but decided that sharing the rough area I live in is important to what we are discussing here and doesn't really represent a privacy problem.

Don't know what the problem is, its a whole state you are not asking for the home address. I agree what works in Washngton State sure doesn't work here in Florida. (Example full sun lol) And for the newbie it is super confusing. When I see some of the blooms I say WOW and wonderful what weather conditions that was grown in. Just sayin

Good point, Rosie!
That's why I say, Lower Mainland, BC.
While I agree with the idea of geographical specifics, unless you live in the neighbourhood, I'm not sure one can figure out the local climate. For example, while it may be sunny in Vancouver, it rains in Fraser Valley, and this is only an hour of drive.
I remember once having my car stuck in the snow and two strangers helping me to push it - because I was blocking their way. Anyway, when I've got to Vancouver (40 min by transit) - there was not a single flake on the ground, it was even dry! So... go figure!
