I have grown orchids for over 11 years and I have killed a lot. I have a lot of health issues so I usually loose them to neglect. I don't think I have ever lost one to overwatering. Usually it is to under watering. I had a bad lung infection last winter and I didn't get better until late spring. I lost quite a few because I couldn't care for them properly. The rest of my collection is recovering.
I'm actually surprised at the low numbers people are posting. When I saw this thread I expected to see higher numbers of orchid loses.

I guess I never said an exact number, but I'd have to say probably about 20-30.

TOMMYMIAMI -Overwatering, waiting too long to repot, wrong plant for my conditions, some creeping crud that struck years ago, repotting at the wrong time, wrong mix, wrong size pot - you name it, I've done it!

Me too!!! Except for overwatering! Maybe I did when I first started but knowing how much I don't like watering I most likely didn't. I wouldn't hate it so much if it didn't take so much time and I didn't have to cart every plant to the kitchen sink!

I did the same thing.... until I made an awesome drainage tray system. Now I'm more likely to overwater than before.

I guess you could say that I'm an orchid murderer.... I grow out of a 30 gallon aquarium in Arizona, so I have limited space... when the tank got almost full I mail ordered what I thought were miniatures, but really were huge.. so I threw a few away a few plants that were in decline and gave a few more away that had never bloomed.....( the ones I gave away were killed by neglect by their new owners, and the ones I threw away got steam cooked in the 110 degree trash can.) Needless to say all the ones I kept have bloomed in fear of being my latest victim .
So far the total number of murdered orchids is at around 5 guess I got a mean streak in me.

If you haven't killed a plant you haven't learned anything. The problem is people kill them, only to kill them again in the same way as the first. This is worse in my opinion. If you don't put more time into research, then into growing, it will happen over and over again.
I have no idea how many I have killed, but I have a few bags of tags for what its worth.
