What are the chances this cooked phal will live?
I got this one about four years ago, and was my first orchid so I'd like to try save it if possible. Basically I kind of got bored of them and started neglecting it.. It started drying up pretty badly and would have died if I didn't intervene. I started watering it more regularly.. about once a week. It is (was) in root bark, charcoal, and rocks with an orchid pot that has lots and lots of drainage... I knw I wasn't over watering it, in fact I'm positive I was underwatering still as it still dropped a few leaves that dried up.
Fast forward to last night.. I went to run it under the tap without realising someone else was using it for hot water. Without thinking, or checking the water temp, I turned on the cold and out came some pretty hot water onto the orchid. This didn't hit me until today. I completely forgot about this. We were hitting the wine lol
I completely forgot about that until today I noticed it was a bit loose in the pot, and very lightly tugged on one of the leaves and off it came. I tried another one (only two leaves at this point) and the whole thing came out, minus the roots at the bottom. Here's what it looks like now:
The pink stuff is rooting compound I dipped it into, in desperation. What do you think the chances of it making it are? I don't have any idea how much orchid needs to be left in order for it to root, lol.

Sorry about your plant & I hope it pulls through for you. I have two plants that have been burned by things other then the sun.
I have a phal. That was rescued, it was burnt by being too close to a hot oven, it lost two leaves, but is now thriving.
I had vanda that got burned pretty severely this winter when the heater in my solarium was being temperamental. The plant wasn't that close to it and the damage didn't seem that bad, until that evening. Long story short, my beautiful vanda that was in spike died a SLOW painful death.
Keep watering, feeding and treating it nicely and hopefully it'll come back! And welcome to the board!

Um... Not so sure u can bring it back.... Prob better to get another one.
And, of course, Welcome! This forum is a great place, and I hope that you do get into this hobby, and stick around, regardless of how this particular orchid is doing. You will enjoy it I'm sure!
Here is a thread in which someone was able to rescue a phal like this (also had no roots), but, it is a very long process, at least a month, could be more, w/ no guarantee it will work, but here it is... Sorry, I am not t tying to be a downer, it's just Im not sure I'd waste my time, or try reviving this unless that orchid was valuable (to me). But, I do truly wish u the Best of Luck!

Oh, almost forgot, usually root hormone powder is way too strong for orchids, and can burn the roots/stem (so you won't get anything, esp. not roots, unfortunately... Just wash it off), so to grow *Orchid roots*, you would need either SuperThrive, or KLN, or a Seaweed Extract to help induce roots. Along the same principal of the root powder, you don't wanna use the aforementioned stuff more often than once every two weeks... Otherwise, it can stunt root growth.

Sorry... This looks bad. Looks like there is nothing left of the stem or the areas where roots would normal develop from and that it's just the crown that is left intact.
Is this a NoID supermarket phal? If so, I think I'd just...give up on this one. Sorry.
But welcome to the OrchidBoard! Here you will find lots of good advice, like for instance that phals are better raw and unprocessed than cooked through!

Thanks for the welcomes everyone
Yeah I certainly don't have much faith that this one will pull through.. I have it in a container with plastic wrap on top to keep the humidity in. I have it under my fish tank so that it doesn't get too much light right now. Who knows, it might pull through but I won't be too sad if it doesn't.
This is what it looked like when it was blooming. It is indeed a noid, but it had some meaning behind it which is why I came here.
That thread you linked to Island Girl gives me a little faith, but I think mine looks worse than any of those in that thread.
I still have two other noid phals, one is a mini that is sort of like this one.. I really need to repot them as they're in sphagnum moss still, but I want something easier than rootbark, charcoal, and gravel. I find with the pots I have that the charcoal quickly finds it's way otu of the pot, leaving the mix really airy and not as dense. They both actually started flowering in the spring.. The mini phal sent its spike up right into the 2x T5HO lamp above my fish tank which completely burnt it before I noticed. The 'giant' phal as I'll call it, only bloomed for a month.. Not too sure what happened there.
Time for a new orchid! LOL

Doesn't look too good lol. One of the leaves fell off so now it's just the one leaf with another little new one coming out of it. I repotted the other two noid phals and am going to try semi-hydro with them.
Thanks for all the support everyone
