I believe this is a Dendrobium. It is in a window facing southwest. I do not understand why the leaves are turning yellow. The window gets a little sun in the afternoon. Can it be too strong for this orchid? Perhaps I should shade it with the Venetian blinds when it is sunny in that window. I mist it every day. Is that wrong treatment? I very much want this orchid to survive, to look after it properly so that in time it will bloom. Thank you for any help.
How many hours of sun is it getting? This type can take a fair amount of sun.
Misting probably isn't necessary, but I don't think it caused this.
What type of potting media is it in, and how often do you water it?

It is getting very little sun, possibly less than an hour. It is in ordinary bark compost (called orchid soil here). I mist over the bark daily but water it every 2 weeks since I cannot see the roots. Would it be better to put it in a transparent pot, the kind used to pot Phaleonopsis in? What is the correct medium and watering frequency?
Bark mix should be ok, so long as it isn't very fine.
I use bamboo skewers (kabob skewers) in the pot/potting mix to help determine when to water. Search the board for "skewer", or google "skewer method orchids".
This time of year, the potting mix should not be allowed to dry out completely - shouldn't be soggy tho - water when skewer feels nearly dry (skewer should feel just somewhat cool yo your skin). In winter, they can dry slightly, but not be left dry for long periods.
