Do Paph's mind a morning misting?
Default Do Paph's mind a morning misting?

I just got my first paph and its pretty cool. I like misting all my orchids down in the morning, and read that Zygo's dont let that at all. So my new zygo will be sitting out on my morning mist shower. How about paphs? Its indoors and the leaves will be dry in a few hours. I mist them to get direct water absorption but mainly just to clean the leaves, keep them fresh.

The leaves on paphs are pretty sturdy, but there are lots of crannies to trap water, so I recommend against it. Besides, the degree of "direct water absorption" is so small, that it is of no practical value anyway.

I agree with Ray. It's also a good way to spread disease and icky - I find misting makes ME feel good, but perhaps it's not so good for the plant.

In the summer, paphs can catch bacterial rot and die off real fast.

I would not take a chance, but if you do water from the top, then be willing to take some time to soak out all the water from the center with paper towel or something.

As Ray says, water uptake from the leaves are not that significant. Regular watering is the best and important for the plant.

I clean the leaves only occasionally if dust collect too much on the leaves. Plants don't seem to be affected by dust on the leaves unless you can still see the green. lol

Interesting in Florida I raise paphs outside and water with a hose during the summer.

I said they "can" catch.

As long as plants are grown healthy and water dries off quickly with enough breeze, overhead watering usually do not start troubles.

I grow everything indoor and do not take a chance.
better safe than sorry.
