...as funny as that is, I don't think I'd risk it w/o an import permit (which I don't think u can obtain if you are already out of the country, but I dunno)... I do know, that if I were to ever try that, just once, w/ my luck, I'd get the 60,000 dollar fine that Jim posted about... & not be able to buy orchids (or anything else for that matter) for a looonnng while!

Just wanted to let you know that I'm back in the States! I packed the orchid in checked baggage. Despite the rough journey, it made it! But I couldn't resist bringing an orchid home since they're much cheaper in Taiwan than in the U.S. I got my blooming-sized orchid for approximately $8 (NT$250)! Definitely worth every penny! The only thing I regret is that I didn't buy more (FYI: I'm not encouraging anyone to bring plants into the U.S. illegally. I didn't have enough time to file the appropriate documentation as I acquired the orchid a few days before my departure. The nursery where I bought my orchid from regularly exports orchids to the U.S. The nursery was unwilling to send my orchid as I did not meet its minimum purchase amount.)

At $8 a pop, I would have bought the minimum amount and sold them here on OB when I got home.

Cheers.
Jim
