Too much rain?
Default Too much rain?

I have all my orchids in coarse bark. We have gotten rain every 3-5 days avg. Should I be covering them to only get the rain every week or so? They don't sit in water, obviously, because of the mix (cannot say the same for my suculents, they're toast...er soggy) --and they're not in other contains that hold water either. I spray them with a weak fertilizer once a week (I don't soak).

This is just a general question, as I don't have the ability to care for each one individually daily, so I do the best I can and they're still happy!

The rains are fine as long as the surrounding puddle splash don't carry bacteria and contaminate your plants.
Most orchids in situ have monsoon rains for months flooding them....but then again you must have inherited your orchids from lab to greenhouse environment where they were pampered with controlled temperature and watering regimen....it is best to know what conditions your plants are used to then try to imitate them in your environment.

I would say that it depends on the plant - if you have any that like to dry out between waterings, and they aren't getting a chance to, there could be problems. They're fine occasionally not drying, but if it goes on too long, they will start to suffer. Even orchids that don't wish to completely dry out can still be over watered, as well.

Just as in nature, as long as there is a stiff breeze to help dry the roots after the rain they will be fine.

Thanks all! We're due for a week of dry weather, and they have plenty of open air/breeze
