Today's new addition - Phrag. Schroderae - something different

Always like to post when I pick up something 'different'. Today's new addition to the family is Phrag. Schroderae. First flower has no petals! Will be interesting to see what comes on the next one.

sugarplum color....very nice! wait until the bud fully opens....the petals will right itself and show you the full glory of its bloom

Really pretty colour. It does look to me like the petals may still unfurl, will be interesting to see.

I really like the color also. I'd love to see a picture when it's in full bloom. I just bought my first phrag and don't really know what to expect from them. I hope mine is as nice as yours.

I got this one from someone disposing of a collection. The tag was wrong........but from its colouring I am sure its a Schroderae. Does the foliage seem the same as yours ?

It's gorgeous! I too love the color! I see it's sequential? How nice! Will you post another picture when it's opened?

Yes, it's got another bud on it now, and looks like a 3rd is forming. Phrags are sequential by nature. There is also another growth in sheath that appears will pop soon.

In terms of this actual flower... I've looked at it left, right, up, and down... I simply can't count enough parts to find petals. Either that, or those ARE the petals, and there is no dorsal sepal. I also know I've never had this plant before, and yes, I could be wrong!!! But we will see. When I was in the store I thought it was the 'phrag with no petals' - but there isn't such a thing, I was thinking of Phrag lindenii, which is the 'phrag with no pouch'.

Maybe this type just does that once in a while.

Yes, the foliage looks the same as yours orchidsarefun, but I have a lot of phrags, and many of them look that way.

Stay tuned though, of course I will post another picture! Fortunately this plant is fine... got another Phrag yesterday also, and had a hard lesson about my dogs wagging tail when I come home with new plants :/ So that spike is only going to produce two flowers. Live and learn I suppose.

Wow! That's a pretty big plant.

So, the flower dropped. It never "opened" more, as there really were no petals. I pulled the dropped flower apart to confirm this. It was interesting, at least. The next two are developing now, so we will see what happens next!

Interesting, you do get occasional mutant flowers. Let's see what happens with the next one
