OMG, there are Dracula Orchids?

That's so cool! I googled them after seeing a passing reference, and they look awesome! The wiki page was lacking though... Does anyone have any intel on these? How hard are they to get a hold of? Are they tricky to keep alive?

Does anyone have one? I'd be sooo jealous!

They are not terribly difficult to grow, but most of them tend to like being grown cooler, (around 50 F - 85 F).

These grow in bright shade.

Like lots of humidity and year round even moisture.

But balancing cool and humid would be kind of a trick for me, in my current location...

I don't know how convenient it would be for you to visit these places, but these 2 nurseries are closer to your neck of the woods:

Exotic Orchids of Maui

Tropical Orchid Farm

They may not have any Dracula orchids, but they do have other orchids. Tropical Orchid Farm carries some Pleurothallids, not Dracula, but other kinds.

You could also try the more intermediate growing types of Draculas that grow in temperatures of 55 F - 85 F.

They're not especially convenient, I'm on the wrong island for that and it'd be something I would have to plan. Although perhaps shipping costs would be down?

I have a couple of Dracula orchids I got from Ecuagenera whenever they are here in the USA for a show, I order in advance and they mail it to me wherever they are in the US.... there is also a Dracula vampira on Ebay ending in two days that is blooming specimen size.

ooops....you are in Hawaii=your customs and import/export laws make it difficult for mainland US shippers to deal with, that is why many growers refuse to ship to Hawaii. But good luck.

Thank you! I might just wait to try the really interesting orchids until we rotate back to the world. No point in getting attached to a really interesting plant only to put it up for adoption at the end of three years.
