But then how do we explain these? I just think that there are other factors, one of which is hybridization. The temps here have been relatively stable the last few months. About a 5*f swing day/night and the light level is fairly even too. I have always had phals that bloomed nearly year round. If anything it is Feb-Mar where I have few blooms on my phals. Rosie is correct in her statement that growers push orchids to have year round merchandise to sell us. I also have two others over at my friends house right now. I wonder if the forcing of them could have changed the blooming timer and it takes awhile to reset it.
I think you are right James. There are no absolutes, just trends we notice. Some of our orchids like to go outside those trends though... why should nature the rules we try and fit it into
