Stubborn Cattleya
Default Stubborn Cattleya

I have a Cattleya for about four years now. It only bloomed once with one flower. Can anyone suggest a way to get it to bloom. I have it outside now with my Phal's for the summer. The roots are good and the leaves are doing fine it won't bloom. Any suggestions?

Generally, Catts need a lot more light than Phals. Move it to a sunnier location.

I agree. If the Phals are fine, then likely the Cattleya isn't getting enough light. What shade of green are the leaves? Lighter green is better and shows they are getting enough light.

I agree with the above - it may likely need more light

Not enough light at the right time is the number one reason catts don't flower. Exceot for death of course(-;

I agree that the number one reason for cattleyas not blooming is not enough light. On the other hand, not all cattleyas are created equal. When you read descriptions of catts on on-line vendor sights you'll see them describe some catts as 'reliable bloomers'. The reason they say that is that not all cattleyas are reliable bloomers. I have several catts that sometimes don't bloom for a year or even more. Good luck.
