Cheesecloth is pretty cheap and would probably work in my bathroom for the cattleyas, I have some around here somewhere. But I'm looking to break up the direct light in a larger, living room window for a different plant which is why I was thinking lace. Also that particular section of the window is 3 ft by 3 ft..and fabric at Wallyworld is pretty cheap and they cut it for you, lol.
