Bad Phal
So I am going to re pot my mom's phal that just has a couple leaves and at some point had the crown rotted. I am hoping to put it in the same pot but how much air space does it need in it's Just add ice container? I am thinking sense I have been reading that I may put it in another outer pot that has more air movement.
Anywho do you think it will grow again? I have had one myself that did that when I must have gotten water in the crown. It does have good looking roots. But I have no reason why?

Ok I will try and do this, I will tell you I am a bit challenged in this area so you may have to bare with me. also I have been reading and have heard that I have to have 5 posts before I can post up some pics so I am trying to get that done as well.
I'm going to maybe get some of the questions you might have out of the way. I posted in the into section about a few of my failer's and part of it was that I was afraid to repot because I was not sure of what I was doing. I had at least one special case I will tell in another place. But in March I knew I had to do the deed so I ordered mix from Kelly's Korner so I think I have a pretty good mix.
I like it and most all my plants are so so happy with me they have all improved. So now much to my dismay (this is since I am the one that got my sister and mother into them) I find myself having to repot both there's. They don't seem to want to spread there wings and learn how to do the job.
I think I will have to limit them. But then again I just bought them both 2 each of those just add ice ones. They seem to be the rage as of now. I will also say that the using ice never did seem like a good idea to me and in reading this board I have found that out as well so I guess I made the right decision there.
Ok I will go and take some pics of said orchid and see if they will let me post them.

Here is the orchid. I will see if I can just put it back in the pot but does it look like it may need a bit bigger? I have a clear pot that is bigger and it and I have socked the mix all night. I did read somewhere on here that you don't need to but it is so dry in my climate I think it is best.

looks like water got in the top of the crown & caused crown rot. Roots look good to me. be careful not to let water stay in the crown area of the orchid, in nature the crown grows toward the ground.

It is possible that it could recover. The roots are still good but when a phal gets crown rot it takes a very long time to recover. I recently had mealybug destroy a crown so badly that I threw the plant out.

Thanks Skayc1 and Vandalover Yes I am sure it did get water in it. It is my mothers and I'm not sure but I think she got it this way. I have told her not to let water in the crown but I think she told me she got it from one of my sisters but not sure.
I think the poor thing has been this way for a while now so I thought I would try and save it. She would like to. I had one that I got water in about 3 years ago and I didn't know it till the crown rotted but it got a new growth right away. However I have not gotten it to bloom since because I was to afraid to repot. I am luckily over that now.
I guess I will just go for it and hope for the best thanks so much.

If the roots fit back into the original container without too much crowding, you could stay with that one or otherwise move one size up. It's best to use a pot that fits the roots to avoid root rot. You may get a basal keiki from the plant since the crown will likely not produce any more leaves.

Thanks silken do you think it will be good enough to just have it on humidity trays and I am looking for a new humidifier also.
I do have to hall my water for that as if I use my well water it will put white powder over everything. I think I will have to get some new either K-L-N or seaweed. What does anyone think is best? Mine is very old and I have just found out no good anymore sadly I did use it on the ones I repoted in March but I guess I was just wasting my time.
I am also watering with rain water.

I like the seaweed, mixed with lots n lots of water- can you buy distilled water? white powder on everything is not good.
