We had water with white powder where we used to live. I used r/o water, rain water, melted snow or water from my dehumidifier.

Yes it is not fun great water to drink but I do put it through a brita. I don't even know what r/o water is, I hear people talking about it but what is it? When I go to town I can get town water, because I live out in the country. But I get town water and it doesn't do that. I have an old neighbor that is 95 I look some what after and I just get water from his apartment in town, small town just had to add that.

Oh he use to be a neighbor but sold his place now lives in town. And forgot to say said orchid is in it's new home lets hope for the best. Went ahead and repoted a couple of others on in sphagnum that I was waiting to stop blooming but I had the mix so I did it.

Hope it's happy as I don't think it was in the moss.

You buy it from a shop that sells it, or you install a reverse osmosis filter to make your own.
In most places, rainwater is perfectly adequate if you can rig up a way to collect it.

I collect all the rain water that I can but I have also used my well water. Could be some of my problem, I don't know but my garden and all my house plants do well on it I think, no pun intended

I put it in plastic gal jugs but several years ago my neighbor gave me some of his plastic cat litter jugs and they hold allot more water and work fantastic. I also bought a big rain barrel last year best thing I ever did. It does have to be empty by winter however. I did use it last year for some of my outside plants but this year I think I will save it all for my orchids.

Now don't yell at me but I use the same water to water all my orchids, I know, I know that could spread disease. Is that the only reason you are not to do this. If I don't I would never have enough water. It doesn't rain that much in Wyoming you know.

How expensive is it to get a r/o water filter?

Most rain barrels have screens in the top. Just put screening over your container.

Yes it is a 50 gal water barrel they were selling last year, wish I would have gotten another this year but I may get one in the next town as they have some there. It has a topper with holes and they have screens in them so you can put it under a rain gutter but stuff doesn't get in there.

There is bird poop that gets in there from off the roof if it hasn't rained in a while but I figure that's fertilizer. But for the winter I store it in either gal jugs or like I said am using cat litter plastic jugs that are 3 or 4 gal's I think. Works pretty good for me. I have an under ground garage the I put them in.
