Default Blc. Always Dream 'Volcano Queen'

Hi everyone,

I had quick questions for the OB about Blc. Always Dream 'Volcano Queen'.

1) How big do these get?
2) What is the bloom season? Will this bloom more than once a year?

I have the opportunity to buy Always Dream 'VQ' or Lc. Orglade's Grand 'Yu Chang Beauty'. I know that 'yu Chang beauty' is a bit larger, but for the price, I may just have to find the room in my grow space for it. (The vendor also said that 'yu Chang' was free blooming- can anybody corroborate this?)

Thanks!

Hi, I have BLc Magic of Mishima "Volcano Queen" and it is around 6"-8" high. The flowers are about 7" across and it's a beauty. Yours should be similar. Most BLc's that I have seen are anywhere from 6" high to 12" high.

That's good to hear. James, how often does your "volcano queen" bloom?

Once a year most of the time. Sometimes I get secondary growth and it blooms in Jan.

My Lc. Orglade's Grand 'Yu Chang Beauty' is a fairly large Cattleya and it has bloomed in winter around Dec. or Jan. the few years I have had it. Not any other time. I divided and re-potted it last year and it didn't bloom this past winter which is a first. However, I did keep the smallest piece only. I'm sure it will co-operate next winter.
Edit:
I see Cloud's carries the Blc. Always Dream 'Volcano Queen' and in their description they say it is a medium sized plant and blooms 1+ times a year, which I think really means 1 time per year in most cases.

Silken, if I may ask, how big was your Orglade before the division? The plant that I was offered supposedly has 19 pseudobulbs on it in a 5" pot... I contacted the seller again to verify the number of bloomings they claim. Thanks for the feedback!
