Mounting an Encyclia cordigera. Male
Question Mounting an Encyclia cordigera.

Good afternoon. ^_^

About two weeks ago I bought an Encyclia cordigera. As I was repotting it (trying to get all of the old Sphag out of the middle) one of the new growths plus an older growths fell off of the bigger new growths.

I was trying to figure out what to do with the smaller new growth, and came up with mounting it.

I am wondering if it is even possibol.

Thank you. ^_^

Yes, it is possible, and it should be pretty straight forward.

I've grown an unknown kind of Encyclia mounted onto a small piece of cork bark for about 8 years without a problem.

Grab a mount that is larger than the plant. (Cork bark is the hobby staple. But essentially it doesn't really matter what kind of mount it's put on. This plant should be hardy enough to accept most mounts without a problem.)

If you're using cork bark, place a thin layer of moss on top of the bark. Then place the orchid's roots on top of the moss.

If you find that the orchid's roots are shriveling later down the line because the area you live in is not humid enough, put another thin layer of moss on top of the roots.

I like using New Zealand Sphagnum Moss, btw, and that's what I would recommend using for now.

I have a nice chunk of apple wood. Is it ok to apple wood with orchids?? I know that there are some woods that don't allow other things to grow on them.
And if not apple wood I have some ironwood.

Please let us know how the mount turns out and post some pictures if you can! I have not yet tried to mount anything and I am eager to see how yours comes out...
