James - I always drop my pots into more decorative pots... is that stifling my airflow??

Put something like small pebbles or glass marbles in the bottom of the decorative pot so the inner pot has some space under it. That way the warmer air in the pot can rise and outside air can replace it. Also if you can get a decorative pot that is 1/4 to 1/2 inch bigger than the inner pot is good.

Ack! I have been trying to match them so they fit as snug as possible. Thanks for the advice... I'd honestly never considered it.

When my niece got me my first Orchid, the decorative pot had been broken, or broke before she gave it to me, so it's natural for me to not use the decorative pots. It was a 'just Add Ice' Orchid & I've since learned better, the decorative pots that came with the clearance Rack Orchids from lowes I'll use when I water the orchids. I just repotted them, so I wont be needing to water again till this coming Sunday...I do plan on using a weakly weekly plant food in mine. I can see by the roots on my Phalaenopsis orchids when they need watering. I'm learning the best way to check if an oncidium need watering is by the weight.

Update:

So I got my Orchitop Carousel Pot in the mail today. My new Phal has been officially freed from the sand pail. Of course, as soon as I received the package, I immediately began repotting my new Phal. After taking her out of the pot she came in, her roots were very healthy. I snipped a couple of dry ends, but that was about it.



This time, I had soaked the bark mix overnight, which I hadn't done the first time, but it did make a world of difference in the texture.

Her spikes kept overlapping so I had to place something in between to keep them separated enough so the flowers have more space in between them and won't be all bunched up on top of each other:

I'm fascinated by your spike separator. I used cut, empty 3" pot last time I needed to do that, and it didn't look so good! I have yet to see something actually designed to do that task - which confuses me, as I think it's a pretty 'regular' problem.

It's actually a plastic cookie cutter my daughter traded me for the new little pink butterfly clip I got in the mail today, but yes, you're right. Someone needs to come up with a cute little gizmo to suit this purpose.
