I Guess It's True; You Can't Stop at Just One! Female
Default I Guess It's True; You Can't Stop at Just One!

For the passed few weeks, I have been lurking all the orchid sales sites and out of all the pretty Phals, I discovered an affinity towards the lime greens. I haven't seen any anywhere near me so I thought I was pretty safe. Friday, a coworker wanted to pick up some martial arts supplies, but didn't tell me exactly where we were going until we got off at the same subway stop as the Plant District. I was excited and horrified; would I be able to control myself?

Well, I am sure you guys know how the story ends...lol

This is my new pretty green Phal (just for reference, the phone camera makes everything look a little washed out):

This one, I will be keeping at home. Lucky for me, the cats have completely ignored it:

The leaves were a little darker than I would have liked, but it was at the back of the display so the sunlight was not as plentiful as it was for the other orchids.

However, the leaves were very healthy and perky and the roots were in decent shape from what I could see. She is definitely not a mini Phal like Audrey is. Her pot is way bigger and there are a lot more roots and the flowers are substantially bigger so it will be nice to get some experience with both types of Phals.

I know many of you have a lot of plants, and are able to manage them successfully, but everything I have ever brought home has died so this IS a big step for me!

Hi. My name is James and I'm an addict (too) . I have obsessive/compulsive disorder so you know what that means. I feel your pain (and pure delight). Last year I sold over 300 orchids and was left with a handful. Now I have almost 60 . Oh well. The Dr said I can't be helped. Yipee. It's such a nice addiction. Flowers. Keep up the good work.

Oh yeah. Take that new phal out of the sand pail. It impedes air flow. Nice looking plant and beautiful flowers.

It's only in the sand pail temporarily with sand at the bottom to weigh it down so the cats won't knock it down, but it's actually potted in the plastic pot from the store. There's space in between the sand pail and the pot and I cut holes in the plastic pot for air. I do need to repot it as soon as my new carousel pot arrives in a few days.

I will most likely not have to water it before the new pot arrives since it's in sphag and it came pretty moist anyways.
