Water and the proper air flow is key. Mini's and normal sized phals are the same. You over water without some type of air flow and the media stagnates and they go bye bye.

This post started out by me saying I couldn't stop getting more n more clearance rack orchids, i was just basically agreeing with your statement.

Ahhh. I don't pay enough attention and get lost sometimes. I also like to get the rescues and see what I can do with them. I experiment a lot. My next experiment will be to get a bunch of mini's and mount them all on a long board. Have multiple phals blooming and filling the board with blooms.

I was shopping at Bi-Lo, my local grocery store, when on the counter was this 'Just Add ice' orchid. The florist had cut the flower off to use in an arrangement she was making to sell. So i asked if she would give me a discount on the orchid. It's roots were in relative good shape & had started growing a new leaf. I did repot it as I wanted to remove any damaged roots that had accord when the store employees fed it Ice..I could see one root on top that they had sat the ice on. so It's re-potted in the same size pot.
