Vanda Growth Rate
Default Vanda Growth Rate

I am curious to know other growers experience with vandas. I purchased a vanda Manuvadee about a month ago. I water it daily, fertilize weakly every other day and mist in the afternoons. It gets 6 hours direct morning sun and has put out at least 4 new roots and a new leaf since I got it. Is this average performance? Does this indicate that I am giving good culture for blooming?

Any comments would be appreciated!

You are correct, this is how a Vanda grows. Roots will grow faster than the leaves. Leaves will grow during warmer months, and it will only be anywhere from about 2 - 4 leaves in a year.

I agree, that's normal growth for a well grown vanda.

It might need to be grown a bit brighter.

It has a shot at blooming soon.

Yeah, although it looks to me like it's not getting enough light. Otherwise it seems very healthy.

You live really close to the sun. Use that ball of fire!! Lol. I grow mine under t5s and got five new leaves since December. Maybe twice as many roots. Another vanda I have has done half that so its hard to judge. But yeah these guys love light. As bright as you can provide without full on sun all day.

I have a neostylis sky king that I'm looking to rehome. Any chance you'd want it? I'm in Parker but work in the tech center.

That's such a nice offer! I could go to the tech center to pick it up. Do you like beer? I brew my own and have a nice Belgian dubbel and a hard apple cider at the moment.
