Ok...Hello all. My dad bought me a beautiful orchid in early August and it has done wonderfully! Recently its original blooms fell, yet another stem has emerged under the original one that is blooming (more blooms!). Anyway, I am wondering if I should remove the old stem that had the original blooms which fell in order to give room to the new stem and blooms (or allow it to remain, bloomless). What is the practice? Thank you for your assistance, it is truly appreciated!

Hi,
This Phal appears to be P. Newberry Parfait "Picotee".
It is known for it's branching habit and having more than one blossom spike at a time. Best to leave it and enjoy the show!
When all blossoms have dropped and no new spikes are showing around the base of the plant, i.e. coming up and out of the medium, then you can cut (with sterile sissors) the old spikes off.
Hope this helps.
