Looking for Laelia fidelensis
Hi Everyone.... I posted this under the classifieds but wasn't sure how much exposure it would get there so I thought I would try here as well. I am looking for a Laelia fidelensis to purchase. The one I have has a scale infestation and I am not sure if it will make it since it is so small and doesn't have many roots. If any one can point me in the right direction on where I can purchase another one I would appreciate it!

Hi Becca,
Here is a link. If you call them and tell them what you want(size etc) I am sure they can help you. They are really super people!

That's a beautiful, unique flower, Becca. Glad that you're trying growing it. If you were here I'd give you a piece of mine!

Thanks for the help DJ! For some reason when I googled it Santa Barbra Orchid Estate didn't come up for a match? I should have known to look on their website!
Mauro...the more pictures you keep showing, the sooner you might have a new neighbor, or a few.

Thanks D! Ebay is where I originally purchased mine, I am 99% sure it didn't come with the scale....not sure where those little buggers came from....thought I had them taken care of and put the little one back into the orchidarium and a few days later I saw they had just multiplied like crazy....so this time I am trying neem oil and but it into sphag-n-bag since it only has about 3 or 4 roots that are about a little over a 1/2 inch long, and then I put it back in the orchidarium since the bag is sealed....I figured since they came back so quickly in the orchidarium that I would return it so I could tell if I got rid of them or not. I will order a replacement from Andy's if it doesn't make it....I just love the quality of his plants!

If the neem oil doesn't work, I can send you some of my cig butt tea. It worked on a phal that had a mild case. It's nasty stinky but the alcohol it's mixed with evaporates it quicker than just water and doesn't leave it sopping wet for very long. Scale has to be dealt in a series of weeks to take care of the eggs and nymphs. You may have killed off the adults but once the cycle has started - the crawlers (nymphs) will continue to infest your orchid.
I would definitely isolate it from all your plants - sealed or not - why take the chance.

And I might add, you may need to treat medium as well as the crawlers may hide in there. I flowed the Neem oil everywher especially into the crevices of the pseudobulbs and after two treatments a week apart, the 'chids are scale free so far (a month later). Dot's stuff would do the same, probably. But where do I get a supply of Cig. buts? Might have to use cigar buts
