Phalaenopsis putting a spike in summer??
Today, while I was watching my orchids, I noticed something strange on one of them. Between the two leafes, hidden deep, I saw a small crack, just like a flower spike emerging at the beginning. Is it possible to be a flower spike, or a root? I can't post pictures yet, because it's too small, and I don't know if my camera would noticed that. Anyway I will wait.. Anyone with some suggestions??

I have a rescue phal that has the beginning of a spike. It had just finished blooming when I got it about 4-5 weeks ago, but it seems happy enough. I've heard that if the plant is happy enough, it will spike a lot more than if it were unhappy, but maybe some one far more experienced than me can shed even more light!

A spike would be terrific and a root would be too because it means that you have a happy orchid!
If your weather had been a weird as ours has, the recent dip in nighttime temperatures could have triggered a spike. Maybe I should check mine

Yeah.. Actually the weather was so strange last few weeks. The days were cool, it was raining sometimes, and the nights were, I can say, COLD That could be a reason for this spike. All I have to do, is wait and see what will emerge from down there.

Phals can spike actually at any season. It's
Just that in general they spike in winter & grow in summer.
In their tropical origins, there are no four seasons, just wet and dry. But when the rain comes, there is a slight temperature drop and that is when phals. start to flower.

All the bumps/cracks between my leaves have been roots so far. I have 2 poking out of one crack, so I'm hoping one is a spike!

I have 13 phal's and they all bloom at different times. Some are summer bloomers, some fall, some winter, and a spring. I have one that's been in bloom since last fall. And a paph that's about to bloom. Who knows.....I stopped trying to figure it out and let them do what they want!

Since last fall?? that's amazing! How do you handle with 13 phals?
I have only 4.
Could you send me an image from all of them?
I'd be glad to see them
