Default Noticed new growth today!

So today while doing my weekend inspection of all my orchid I discovered some new developments. First the not so good: my first rescue phal that I ever got is no longer. I picked it up to bring in the kitchen to water and one of its two leafs just fell off. It wasn't yellowing or anything. Upon closer inspection on the remaining leaf I noticed the base was rotted. When touched it it pretty much just came off the plant. There wasn't much left for roots when I got it. So that was the end of that one. So now the good: I noticed some new growth on one of my other phals. It's hard to tell right now but could it be a spike??? I'm totally new to this part of orchid growing. It started out looking like a new root but today I noticed this shiny little nub starting to come out. Noticed new growth today!-imageuploadedbytapatalk1370727551-105022-jpg I'm always excited to see new growth. This orchid had a new leaf start out a while ago and it seemed like it was 2 inches long for a while then within the past month and a half or so it seemed to have grown to 4 and a half inches and today I noticed the nub. Woohoo! Sorry if I'm over excited...lol.... :-)

Nice! Looks like a root to me - the glossiness is why ... Good growing!

Thanks! The part that's not as glossy is new as of maybe three months ago and hasn't changed since I just noticed the new shiny part coming out of the tip of it. I had just watered it before this pic. The shiny part on the very end wasn't there when I checked last week. It would be so cool if it was a spike! Oh we'll either way I'm happy for any new growth :-)
