In the long run it may affect the plant's overall health--considering your concern with mold. I find that these Neos seem to grow healthier when they get plenty of humidity, plenty of bright, indirect light, and fresh air--this combination is available in my town only in the spring and fall! In my limited experience I have observed that Neos do better sitting above the planting media. Neonuts (folks who are addicted to growing Neos) want to see plant, roots, flowers, displayed in a decorative pot, all in perfect harmony. <S>

Glad to know there is a name for Neo lovers. Lol. I only have one but it is the one that got me started and is my baby out of all of my orchids. Will check that out. Thanks for the suggestion.
