Cyc. Jean E. Monnier Help (partially dead?)
Default Cyc. Jean E. Monnier Help (partially dead?)

Hi all,

So I recently decided to tread outside the realm of Phal's, and I ordered a Cyc. Jean E. Monnier from a (as far as I can tell) reputable online store.

The problem is, I just got it today and it seems like three of the stalks are dead while one is very much alive and flourishing. I have no problem with that, I'm just wondering if I should try to separate the live one from the dead three, or maybe the three aren't really dead and the joke's on me, or maybe something else is the case. Regardless, here are some pictures, all input is greatly appreciated!

For some reason I can't post a URL without my post being denied, maybe because I'm a new member, so I just put a space in. Copy and remove to see images. Sorry, I know it's a hassle.

Thanks,

I'm not an expert on Cycnoches but I think what you're seeing is bulbs from previous years that lost their leaves before going into dormancy, I don't think they're dead, I think they support the new growths. Here is information on how to care for these plants:

The plant could not be better. It is a very healthy strong plant with 3 pseudobulbs from the last years. Do not separate them or cut them away. as the new growth needs all the energy stored in it for growing and flowering.

Thanks for your advice, and the information in that link was very helpful! I have a quick follow up question, the green stalk is twist-tied to a pseudobulb, presumably for support (though it seems quite steady on its own), and I was just wondering if there's a less obvious reason it's tied like that.

I did a lot of searching online and it seems like this is common practice, so I won't remove it, but I'm curious.

Hi Steve,
the reason for stalking is stability, otherwise it is not needed.
