Default PrimeAgra and Hydroton

Would Hydroton work the same as PrimeAgra for a semi hydro grow?

They are both LECA products. I am sure you can use Hydroton for S/H but your results may not be as good. I believe Primeagra has better wicking action. I am sure others, like Ray, can give more definitive answers. I have never seen or used Hydroton because I am very pleased with Primeagra.

I use it also because it is available at the local hydroponics store. It does not wick as well as prime agrs so takes a little more frequent watering to keep the upper layers moist. Having good luck with some oncidiums in it.

I started growing S/H with PrimeAgra, but have not been able to get any from a Canadian sources. Unfortunately the first and last time I ordered it from First Rays, FedEx grossly over charged me to collect the duty charges. Their handling fee to do so was almost as much as the order value. Consequently I have switched to other LECA types.

Answering the first question: No, it will not work the same (as has been already described well by others), but it will likely work adequately.

Dave - I am now a non-resident importer, so I simply collect the applicable GST, PST, and the brokerage fee I am charged. With the exchange rate these days, maybe you should reconsider!

Ray that is happy news, as I do love the PA. I'll send you an email soon to discuss a possible order and your estimated total costs.
