Hello all,

I got sooo addicted to orchids and I am reading as much as i can on them. I have bought phal in the recent weeks and as I was reorganizing my condo this is the new emplacement that I found for my orchids. I live in Montreal and our winter are extremely cold but our summer hot and very humid. The picture were taken in later afternoon. On your right where the blinds are close is a east facing window, and the bright sunlight that you see are coming from a southwest facing window. The question I am wondering is this too much direct sun for my phal. I read that they do net like direct sun. I live on the last floor of my condo and I get lots of bright afternoon light. What do you think and thanks in advance!!

Too my knowledge phals and all orchids for that matter like early morning direct sun as it is not that hot yet. All my orchids receive morning sunlight till about 10am and then shade for the rest of the day.

Looks like a great spot !

I've found that light through a window is not nearly as bright as you think it is. If the leaves go very dark purple after a while, I would consider moving it, but anything short of that would be fine.

Something that works for me is touching the leaves after they have been getting sun for a while: If they are very hot to the touch, move the plant immediatly, if not, then watch and wait.
