phalaenopsis orchid

Hi everybody, I have got a phalaenopsis orchid and had cut its splike after it stopped blooming. 2 weeks after that whatever was remaining of the splike has totally dried up. Does the splike usually dry up after cutting? Don't know what to do next. I water it once in a week and the leaves also look pretty healthy. Pls. let me know what I have to do as this is my first orchid plant. I have also attached 2 pics of the plant

It's natural for the spike to die. You can cut it shorter if you wish - just so it looks nicer. Hopefully, usually in the fall, it will produce a new spike which will bloom in due time.

My spikes dry after I cut them. It is normal. You have a beautiful plant there. You should be seeing a new spike in the fall/winter and have blooms early next year.

You will know it is spike and not a root if it looks like a mitten on the end of it. Good luck with your lovely phalaenopsis.

If you pull your plant out of its outer pot, hopefully that is what you have, check the roots to make sure they are not crowded. And to determine the state of the planting media. If the bark looks like they have disintegrated into a soil like consistency, that would indicate repotting. This time of year is when I repot my plants as this is the growing season for phalaenopsis. As others have indicated, you have a nice healthy plant.

It's normal for spikes to die after flowering is finished. Some Phals, the spikes will remain green and possibly get new growth on the spike after blooming, but not all.
