Should I Be Worried About This Leaf? Female
Default Should I Be Worried About This Leaf?

Afternoon, all.

I was going over my plants, just having a look, and I noticed this on one of the plants I just watered. It was a clearance orchid that is being kept in quarantine at the moment. It's leaf was damaged, so I'm not sure if something possibly got into the leaf or maybe this is a bruise, kind of like what we'd see on ourselves? I have never seen this before, so I wanted your ideas. If I squeeze it a little it crackles...=\ I don't want to hurt it, though, so I didn't mess with it (though I did poke it with my fingernail..<_<). That area on the underside of the leaf is raised as opposed to flat.

Do I need to remove the leaf? There is nothing like this on any of its other leaves, it's only this one with the damage. I'm worried it's some kind of icky critter or fungus that got in after the leaf was damaged. The leaf came to me damaged and I noticed the raised underside, I just thought it was damage related. I really got concerned when I walked by the door and saw all that black through the leaf today.

Looks like mechanical damage and some sunburn thrown in. I'd leave it and let it do it's thing. It can still photosynthesize and help the other leaves.

Im going to have to agree with Billc. This happened to a couple of my phals early last summer when I left them outside and they had a little to much sun. I still have them almost a year later and they are doing just fine

Okay, great. I was worried it might be an infection or something from the broken leaf, that makes me feel better. Thanks!

I would get a fine point Sharpie and outline the dark areas. If it starts to spread beyond the line I would cut the leaf off as you may have a bacterial infection that could spread. If it doesn't spread you're fine.
