I will never give up that easily ever again, I definitely underestimated this den. it never ceases to amaze me how plants survive almost anything, and I mean plants in general, but also orchids. Just when you think they're down they come creeping back!

Nice! Orchids with pbulbs, or fat canes, can be very resilient! Even some without pbulbs can be surprisingly resilient - but ones that are able to store food and water can be remarkably so.

Just noticed same thing on my Den today! I was gonna chuck it then noticed new canes growth. Two old canes rotted off, but still two left and very solid.

It was leafless and doing nothing for 10weeks, but back from the dead it seems. I am as happy seeing new canes on a poorly plant as I am when flowers bloom on a healthy one!

It is normal for these dens do nothing for a few months after flowering before resuming a new growth cycle.

Mine blooms mostly during the fall. Some bloom in the spring and summer AND fall, but mostly fall.
The bloom lasts for about three months on average.
New growths begin to pop up around in the spring.
This year, the earliest one to "wake up" was my Emma White which began its growth cycle in as early as February. and most others followed in March and April.
One other Emma White and some keikis are lazy and now waking up finally.

Leafless usually occur when exposed to cold or severe drought.

The plant itself usually stays alive as long as the cane is hard and will produce either a new growth as normal when the favorable condition returns if the dormant eyes are viable.
If not, it will still push out keikis.

Regarding dead canes, my den. Cherry dancer, a very healthy looking plant with five spikes, aborted (or was attached by something) three of the four canes. They suddenly turned brown and dryed up in a matter of a few weeks. I thought about cutting them all off in fear of losing the entire plant and thus stopping the "spreading" of the death into the newest cane.
That last cane was the newest one.

Well, I didn't do anything about it and was ready to just toss the plant if it died.
The last cane that survived the mysterious death that took all other canes looks very fresh and stays unaffected to this date. I noticed there is a tiny new growth starting at its base now.

I wish I knew what happened and why it happened but oh, well.
