My Flora-Cart Stinks -- Literally!

I just bought a Flora-Cart fluorescent light stand for my orchids. I love it! I also got the egg-crates that sit on top of the trays so water can fill the trays to increase the humidity. The only problem -- it stinks! The stagnant water, the bit of green algae, I don't know, but it smells like a zoo in there! What can I do???? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
