My Flora-Cart Stinks -- Literally!

I just bought a Flora-Cart fluorescent light stand for my orchids. I love it! I also got the egg-crates that sit on top of the trays so water can fill the trays to increase the humidity. The only problem -- it stinks! The stagnant water, the bit of green algae, I don't know, but it smells like a zoo in there! What can I do???? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

This is why I don't keep this type of set-up. It has to be clean every few weeks or as you mention it begins to throw off oders.
Alot of folks use bleach and rinse out real well.

I put a drop or 2 of Physan in the water when I fill my humidity trays and it works really well to keep smells and algae at bay.

I vote for the Physan as well, but in a pinch, ordinary household bleach works too, and you can get scented varieties so it doesn't smell so "bleachy".

I agree, it sure can work in a pinch. I just didn't like the bleachy smell and it kinda took away from the scented flowers.
