What is my phal flowers doing??? Male
Default What is my phal flowers doing???

I woke up this morning and several flowers are like this.
What's going on? The temperature where I live has recently dropped to 50s/30s--maybe this is the reason why?

take the blooming plants inside the bathroom but not inside the tub and take a hot steamy shower....it might revive....and turn on the electric heater in that room do not let orchids feel temps below 40's that close to the window glass....the Phal leaves are starting to wrinkle and lose its sheen

Is only one flower effected, or are all the flowers starting to thin and dry up?

Around 72 degrees. I don't know how long it has been blooming, but the flowers look fresh when I got it.

I will try this and see what will happen. Thanks! I think you're right about them being too close to the window.

Maybe the flowers are at the end of their cycle?

Most likely flowers have been in bloom long enough and now is the time for the plant to drop them.
Even if you bought them looking fresh, it could have been bloom for three month at the time of purchase and old flowers dry and drop suddenly.

Or sudden change of environment like being exposed to cold, even for brief moment, can cause this but that happens within a couple of days after being brought into the new home.

72F is warm enough and wouldn't affect blooms at all.

How long have you had this plant?
When did you last water it? Are the leaves droopy as well? sever underwatering can also dry the flowers prematurely. but it has to be very very dry for a while for that to happen.

other possibilities are fruits nearby, cold draft hitting directly on the flowers, gas fumes..new paint...

Thanks everyone for your response! I kept thinking about it and I remember I left out an important piece of information...I repotted the orchid when I got it a week ago, while it was in bloom. Could be another reason why the flowers are dropping. Doh!

That can be also a reason for the flower blasting.
Messing with the roots while plants are in bloom doesn't always result in flower drop, but it does happen.
