That's how I feel about my rescue from lowes! It had zero blooms on it when I got it I'm curious to see what it will be. :-)

Since I'm new to orchids, I stick with mostly clearance guys. My first one was one that someone had at her desk at work and when she moved to a new office she gave it to me. I left it there for a year or so and finally brought it home, lol. I know that one is white, only because it was dyed blue when she had it, but I haven't seen it bloom since. I have only seen one of my orchids bloom. The rest are a mystery, mwahahaha! I do have an indication on some of them, though, because their dried up flowers were in their pots with them so I kind of know what they should be lol.

Just got home from grocery shopping and the grocery store (stop & shop) has a little markdown rack that's usually pretty empty but today it had a bunch of orchids. They were all phals, regular size ones and mini ones. I was so excited! $4 for the regulars and $2 for the minis. I got one of each. They both have decent looking roots, no blooms. They are the just add ice brand. My boyfriend couldn't understand my excitement...he says im the only person he knows that buys dead plants...lol. I might stop back tomorrow and see what's left (he's gonna kill me! Lol).

Haha I know...I think he just says it jokingly now. The first time I bought a markdown one he really thought it was dead....lol. I explained to him how they are. I told him that he has his hobbies with his muscle car and mountain bike stuff and I have my new favorite hobby, orchiding! Haha...at least my hobby is cheaper! Lol.

Oh lord, I've had that same talk with my fiance. He does electronics and competition shooting. I do orchids and general gardening. I provide us food and he provides protection and cool technological stuff. Win/win. (But mine's still WAY cheaper!)

I feel like mine is going to be boring bc it's just some normal looking phals. And sadly I've got one in sphag-n-bag condition. I thought it was one plant and was okay. Turns out it was two plants in the same pot and they were not so okay, lol.

Good idea! None of my rescues look like much now but I'm curious to see what other people have gotten. :-)

Talk to the Outdoor manager, the actuall manager, not a regular employee. Managers usually wear the blue vests. Walk them over to the clearance rack and ask him/ her if they will sell you multiple plants for a discount.

Let them know that you aren't paying $7 for a what appears to be a dead plant. I offered to buy 6 for $10 and he took it.

I've used this technique twice now and have been successful
