I asked a lady at a Home Depot near me about some she described as "dead" and said that if I wanted it, I could buy it at full price. There was no arguing, or trying to get them at a lower price because of the vendor they use. No markdowns, just trash.

Sounds like a greedy, wasteful vendor. T_T

Well that's a bummer! I'm sure my Home Depot is the same then for stuff like that. Oh well, I'll just have to stick to my local nursery...they usually have a 50% off table. Or if I'm feeling really adventurous I'll make the hour trip to Lowes...

Our Home Depot in SC has a policy NOT to ever mark down "sick"plants. However Lowe's usually will put them to half price or occasionally $2 , or like today $1 when I got two mini mericlones for $1 in the outdoor clearance rack.

Given that I don't have a local nursery nearby (that I know of, I'm moving soon so I'll look again), that just makes me really mad at HD. And kind of want to keep peeping Lowe's clearance rack for a while. T__T Until I get good enough with orchids to get some real ones lol.

I too get quite upset at Home Depot for being so selfish and wasteful.
You all talk like an hour is far. I have to drive 35 minutes just to find overpriced noid phals at a Hy-Vee and have to drive an hour to HD or Lowes and about 1 hour 20 minutes to the Plant House. The ONLY good and specialist orchid vendor in our entire state.

The Lowe's clearance rack is the reason I have 4 new plants in the past 2 weeks. They do have tiny cattleyas and dendrobiums...they're wrapped in mesh and in bags, no blooms. I also scored a $5 planter with a large blooming phal with a bud, a bromeliad and a prayer plant! I'm going back to that store!!

this is what I got for $5 2 nights ago! it still has a bloom and a bud on it too...I was STOKED! But they put all their clearance orchids outside, so I was disappointed at first, thinking they toss them like HD!

That kind of makes me want to go shopping in Jersey at your Lowes. My store doesn't care AT ALL. They stick them outside in like 40 degree weather. *RAGE*
So......ROAD TRIP!

An hour isn't really too far for me but after having to drive 45 mins each way to work everyday I really don't feel like driving very far on the weekends lol. But i really want to check out what they have so I might just do it today...it's rainy and crappy out so there's not much else to do...lol. :-)

This. My average commute is 45min-1hr in DC traffic. On the weekends I'm just like "Meh, I have to drive 15 minutes to Sams Club? Oh, the humanity!" xD
