Don't dust roots with cinnamon!!
It has a desiccating/drying effect and is not good used extensively on roots. I made that mistake years ago and never again.
Using cinnamon sparingly on the cut ends, and using it on foliage is good for preventing infections getting in to cuts. I've used it successfully on a bulbo whose new growths rot easily if I forget the plant and leave it in water. The cinnamon dries out the suspect looking areas on the new growth, however on roots it's a big no no!

Has anyone found anything on the sale rack that isn't a phal? I've been to four Lowe's in the last two weeks with no luck.

Lowes in Memphis, TN does get in Dendrobiums occasionally and they will enviably end up on the clearance rack. Dens and phals are the only orchids I've ever seen at Lowes in my area on a regular basis. The exceptions being during Christmas time and the BetterGro bag babies.

I've seen phal type dendrobiums and phals offered. I've also seen mule-ear oncidiums, Den. lindleyi (aggregatum), Max. tenufolia, and cattleyas offered as bag babies, not too recently though, a few moths ago.

I checked yesterday, ours sells mostly Phals but there were some Cattleyas as well. Small, starter ones, but they were still there. ![Smile](http://www.orchidboard.com/community/images/smilies/new/smile.gif)

I just suckered for another two Paphs, miniature mericlones, that were at Lowe's clearance for $1. I pulled out my girl scout knife and eased the plant out to see the roots, nice and green. Now they are soaking in weak warm fertilizer water and will get all the old moss pulled off and be put in a bark seedling mix and set on the back porch to put out more blooms on the nice green bloodless stalk. YEAH!

I am so jealous that yours clearances for so low. Ours only goes 50% off. Does anyone know if Home Depot carries orchids and does anything similar? I have never gone into the one by our house, the Lowes is closer (but only by like a half mile hahaha)

The Home Depot where I live does have orchids but I've never seen them marked down. Last time I was there thy had some totally dead mini phal orchids still selling for full price. I'm sure if I asked they would mark them down, they have in the past on damaged items...

Home Depot in my area won't mark down plants. They told me the wholesaler comes by, collects all the orchids that aren't likely to sell, and throws them in the trash. I only asked once, so I haven't verified that.

The trash??? =( That breaks my heart. I did see a thread a while back when I first joined about dumpster diving for them.
