I love the half dead rack!! They should get some recognition as being the only store around that marks them down rather than dumping them and getting a vendor credit. They have some awesome half dead orchid's and other cool plants. I, like some one else mentions, usually scope them out when they are still relatively healthy, and then wait patiently for them to be marked down. Of course now I have to go to Menard's to get things I need because going to Lowe's usually results in a new flower.....Unless I take the hubby with me....(he doesn't let me turn left and meander through the garden section) Honestly though, they had some rather large, properly potted phal's for like $20....still not that bad...I did score a "not a phal" orchid not too long ago.

I didn't see any clearance orchids when I was there... but I did get a slightly dented, $5 canna lily. Super stoked!

I'll keep an eye out for potential halfdeads of the orchid kind.

I saw this thread, and started stalking my local Lowe's stores. I found them today and came home with a white mini phal for $1 and a yellow phal for $3. The yellow had new root growth, which I think would be good for a big box store clearance phal.

My guess would be its supposed to be all of them. But don't quote me on that.

Of the three stores in my immediate area, only one had any on clearance and the lady at the "clearance" store was kind of surprised to hear the other ones didn't have any marked down.

That's fair enough. We only have one about 5 minutes away, but I'd reckon it would be smarter for Lowes to wait until AFTER mother's day...unless the bloom time for their first shipment is up, which is why they're clearing them out. Either way, I'm totally going to go look after work tomorrow.

If you can find someone who works in the department they can usually tell you what days the markdowns are likely to happen. I have 2 lowes that I check at least weekly & they almost always mark down on Thursday & Friday. All the lowes in my area (5) will get in a new shipment of orchids usually about once per month and the orchid markdowns start usually 2 weeks after the shipment arrives as blooms start fading, spikes get broken, etc.

The one by me's department head actually cares about orchids. On of the other worker actually told me that she's the only one allowed to water them!! Which is why I think my half dead ones have been slightly healthier (and slightly more expensive) Some stores will mark them down if they have a new shipment in. My Lowe's marks them down when the blooms are gone. So it's a surprise most every time!
However, about 3-4 weeks after a holiday, I "just happen to need something I can only get at Lowes" oops....then I need a bigger shelf.

Nooo....if your significant other isn't into orchids....leave them home!! Ha! You find one you like, slip it in next to the other ones and just tell him it's been there all along!

Hahahahaha, I'm planning a trip there one of the days this weekend. S.O. doesn't actually care, he just likes to tease me for it. He actually went out and got me a baker's rack and put it together for me so I had somewhere near our window to put ALL my plants.
