I got my mini phals out of those pots as soon as I got home It was not an easy task b/c there were a bunch of sphag in those pots. I'm not a fan of sphag ; they do look nice though. l am using them for my lithops.

If you water your orchid & allow all excess water to drain away, then turn the pot sideways more water will come out. Now this reservoir may be a good thing or a bad thing depending on your environmental conditions and watering habits. If you feel like your orchid is staying wet for too long, then you might want to drain the reservoir best you can after every watering or repot your orchid.

I tried to bust the bottom off of mine today unsuccessfully, I'm just going to use them as shards (I have 2).

I actually repotted my mini phal from one of those to a tall terra cotta pot (I think for some reason it's called a rose pot), and then set the terra cotta inside the pot it came in. It makes it a little taller, and make the pot look pretty.
I had a heck of a time trying to get it out of that pot though- there was enough sphag to pot an orchid twice the size of the mini and there'd still be sphag left over!!

Lowe's Shopping
I went to Taylor Orchids in Monroe yesterday to see if Ron had anything new. Didn't get anything He's having problems with spider mites. Then took off for Lowes to get potting soil, And there they were noid markdowns came home with 2 new phals Cost $ 7.00 . Removed the spag moss, repotted in bark will let them settle in for 2 or 3 days before watering. I'm going back next week, they have a rack of mini. green flower phals with my name on one or two..

I really need to stop going for the sole purpose of cruising the clearance. I mentally calculate how many are losing buds and might make the move. I also look around for an active employee that I might strike up a convo with. I'm moving in a month, so the less plants the better for a 75 mile trip (is the trunk the safest place for transport?)...but what if the new Lowe's has horrible care habits and less selection? Dilemma. LOL

Lowes
Many times I go to Lowes and they have dead looking orchids on the clearance table and I just dig around to find the green roots and buy them at a fraction of the original cost. Some of my best orchids started out this way. I call the "rescue orchids".

Yep, I do this too. In fact, my mom & I both do & we are constantly sending each other orchid pics
We're both feeling like our collections are growing too rapidly & the next best thing to buying one myself is getting my mom to buy it
Taking pics of the leaves on ones you like while they have blooms can help you identify them once they're on clearance.
Maybe the next time I see a nice one on clearance I'll post the pic here to see if any of you guys want it.

I have a Sharrie Baby that came from Lowes, it hasn't bloomed yet, a nd several phals that I rescued. i got a cattelaya today, a couple of what appear to be mini phals,a nd my niece got two dendrobiums. I did get them to mark down the phals, and one of the dendrobiums to half price!

I went to Lowe's last night and came away with 4 more orchids. They are starting to discount the Mother's Day left overs. I found some interesting varieties beyond the normal Phals. I purchased Enc. Phoenecia (which they say smells like chocolate), Blc. Dora Louise Capan 'Lea', and two no ID Phals.
It was surprising that they had all the non-Phals thrown on this bottom shelf. I can't imagine they sell very well this way. The Catt was only $6 because they are selling them in these mini pots without spikes.

Are you guys saying they do discounts on those bagged plants? Like the Catts and Vandas that are in the mesh bags?
