Hi guys.
I'm at a loss with one of my orchids, well...actually...probably more than one, but lets stick to one or maybe two in this thread.
I've got a Dendrobium Yellow Goddess (Dendrobium loddigesii x Dendrobium primulinum).
From my internet search I just get more confused and unsure about what do do with my Yellow Goddess (and my loddigesii also for that matter).
Some places it looks like they are deciduous, other places not. Some growers seem to water them year round, others give them a dry winter rest. Some places I read that at least the Dendrobium primulinum needs a lot of direct sun. Not sure about the loddigesii.
Keep in mind that I'm on the southern hemisphere and going into winter.
I had to re-pot this plant yesterday since the small mount it was on completely disintegrated. I think I managed to save the roots and I put it in a shallow bonsai pots with LECA and a bit of coconut husk chips. The plant has not changed over night and it's too early to blame the re-potting, but... Any advice on growth medium is also welcome.
Over the past couple of weeks the leaves on my yellow goddess are getting pale and a couple has fallen off. At the same time I think the canes look generally ok. They're small (it's a small plant. Leaves are 3-4 cm long and the canes around 10-15 cm, I'm guessing), but plump and firm.
To add to the confusion, my itsy bitsy tiny tiny loddigesii is leafless (and I've been thinking it's dead) but actually shooting a new cane at the moment. Does that make sense now towards the winter?
I'm now just completely confused and undecided regarding this plant.
Does anybody here maybe grow these (or maybe both of the parent plants) and have a bit of experience? I know the loddigesii was a project plant some time back and I've read through the thread, but I'm still just not sure what to do with this one...
