phal with white roots in centre Male
Default phal with white roots in centre

Hi everyone,

Just tryed to repot my phal, and when i got all the bark of, i see that all roots in the middle are moist and white. Is there somthing going on, or somthing i need to do?
It was only bark medium in pot, but it was wery tight. So i assume it has been to moist in the centre.
Letting the plant dry while i wait for any response

Hope anyone can tell me if the white roots need to be removed or if its normal.. You see why i am in begginners discussion!

White roots are normal in tightly packed pots.
The roots don't receive any light packed in the center. So they don't turn green like the ones near the outside.

Ordphien is exactly right, when the roots of a phalaenopsis detect light, they produce chlorophyll so that the root can actually perform photosynthesis. Most other orchids don't do that. If the roots aren't exposed to light, they stay white.

Agreed, it's just because they had no light.
