I think what you're seeing is a root. Anyway, since the plant was in rough shape when you got it, it's best to let it rest for a while to establish a decent root system and grow some new leaves before it tries to expend valuable energy on blooms. In a state like that, it probably would likely only produce <5 flowers... so if you let it rest and store energy, when it does actually bloom, you will have a better show Patience is a valuable virtue you must learn if you are going to succumb to the orchid addiction

I think I'm getting a little over excited. Hehe. I'd love to get a lot more so I can always have something blooming... I found them for decent prices at Oak Hill Gardens, but I don't really like to order online unless I know it's a reputable seller.

Some hybrids are known to bloom multiple times a year.
Try looking through the "ever blooming orchid" thread and setting what catches your interest.

Another question (I'll get pics, if needed)

Something is bothering me about the roots... When I ropotted, I noticed some of the roots that were in the medium were growing white nubs on them, about 1/4' long... are those just aerial roots starting out, or is it something I should be worried about? Everything else I've read, it appears that aerial roots grow out of the top of the plant, not off of old roots.

They're solid white, too. Not the spongy stuff that's on the biggest root on my plant. For all I know, though, that's perfectly normal.

Roots branch all the time. If you use a rooting hormone, branching is much more likely.

I haven't ever fertilized it. I probably should, but it's been doing so well, that I haven't really thought about it... Do you think that if I did, it would be better for it when it finally does bloom?

Yes, you have to fertilize. It's not likely to bloom if it's not fed. Check out firstrays.com for lots of fertilizer info and get a good quality product.
