I haven't seen terracotta chips here. But lava rock works pretty well too.

I use that too but the lava rock I can get here is about 1/3 of the size of the terracotta chips so I use the terracotta chips for the things I want to drain REALLY well.

The lava rock we get here is for landscaping and I need to break it with a hammer to get smaller pieces.
