I just read this mentioned in another thread and thought maybe this is what I'm seeing on my oncidium leaves. I searched the Internet & found only 1 pic, then searched OB through tapatalk & only found one other post about them, so I'd still like some help or advice.
I did recently cut back on watering this guy and with all the new roots I'm considering moving him into semi hydro to get him out of this sphag. Purchased him after Christmas on clearance with noid & only 1 flower looked nice enough for a pic. I'm attaching the flower pic and updated photos of the plant including what i think might be a slight concertina. I think the pseudo bulbs look pretty good. Sorry for pic quality, not much light yet this morning.
Any advice or comments are appreciated. It's hard for me to pick favorites among my orchids, but I really like this little guy and want to do right by him
I forgot to mention that this guy came with 2 pseudo bulbs total and now has 2 new growths.
I guess what I'm looking to learn is if this is a slight concertina on his leaf, if he overall looks good and, since I have no idea what type oncidium he is, what he might be so I can research what his cultural requirements are.
You guys are all a great resource and thanks in advance for any help!
Yes, there's slight pleating on the growth in the left in thr last pic. Plant may have been a bit under-watered while that leaf was developing. Severe pleating may be cause for concern. Caused by either severe under-watering or roots that have rotted due to consistent over-watering.
How big are the blooms on that? Someone may be able to suggest possible i.d.
Most Onc. like lightly moist potting media, moderate light.
Sonya is right, the pleating is a moisture problem. Either it got dehydrated or overwatered.
You are better off with S/H method than the moss.
Your bulbs are not wrinkled so you can start S/H already....this kind of orchid have fine roots so its best to disturb it in spring when the warmer months will help it recover.
Thanks for the info. I'm glad to hear this happens while the leaf is developing, which means it wasn't due to my change in watering and it hasn't happened on any other leaves.
When I got the plant I didn't think to sniff it
That final bloom only lasted a day or two and I had completely forgotten what they looked like until I went through my photos. Still, I feel a little silly for not noticing the resemblance to a Sharry Baby.
I'm definitely looking forward to the next time it blooms! Though I love the look of this guy even without blooms.
