Phal unhappy, wilting
Default Phal unhappy, wilting

I am a novice orchid enthusiast, and have 4 phals - all from Ikea, one from a true garden store.

3 of my four phals are happy, and only recently did the fourth display some disgruntled-ness in the form of wilting and dropping flowers. Most of the flowers seem healthy, but about half of them are lightly wilting and it has dropped two or three.

I REALLY dont know what I'm doing and have heard that orchids like to be misted rather than watered. I mist them once every two or three days, at the base, so as to soak the potting medium (which in the case of the one that is unhappy, is a bark mix)

Any assistance you can lend me would be greatly appreciated.

Additionally, I have examined the roots and there is no rot, whatsoever. I have encountered that problem before which is what led me to mist them frequently, rather than water less frequently and risk drowning them.

Is misting a good practice?

I only mist to get the aerial roots.
My phals in bark get a 20 minute soak in water once our twice a week.
It might be under watered.
Pictures would help.

Water well when media is nearly dry.

If the plant and roots all look good, I imagine the blooms are just finished. How long has this plant been in bloom?

It just looks to me like the flowers have finished and are dying off as they will eventually do. Plant looks healthy.

Phals are very long lived perennials. The flowers may be wilting, but the plant will continue to live. It will re-bloom.
