How are my roots :)

Hello everyone! My phal is losing its flowers and about to go to sleep so indecided to do some maintance. I took a look at the root system and it was pretty bad, I had to cut away most of the deadc dry and stringy roots. i have attached a picture so show its current condition. What should my next step me to help this little one grow back roots, and how often do you need to water sleeping orchids? Thanks you

I soak my roots when they look like that in hydrogen peroxide till its stops fizzing. Give it a good rinse after and dab the roots in cinnamon. I have several rescue orchids that looked like that but they are all growing new roots now =) Im no expert so maybe someone else has some better advice =)

The stuff you get at the drug store i think its 3%. =)

as far as i know Phals do not go to sleep-they grow all the Time-either new Roots-or Leaves or Spikes.So your watering and feeding should always be the same

Don't use ground cinnamon on living roots. Dries them out.

I have Phals that don't do anything over winter, but they aren't dormant, and get the usual water and fert.

Your instict is correct, after flowering you repot newly acquired plants and check out the roots; cut the old spike so it triggers the plant to produce new roots and new leaves to help it get more energy for the next bloom cycle. You have good roots left, nothing to worry.
I havent heard of 'sleeping' orchids...maybe you are thinking about some orchids that require rest period where you lessen water and fertilizer....your Phalaenopsis dont require rest period....you continue watering/fertilizer regimen and follow the Phalaenopsis culture.
