I just bought my first oncidium from a local hott house and it came planted in regular soil. I finally repotted it today and could not believe how crazy healthy all the roots still were. This is my first oncidium, so I can't help but be impressed with those roots! Now I just hope I can see some flowers soon!
Looks like a nice healthy oncidium. I am in NY also and I find that I have very good luck with oncidiums...hope you do too!
Most of mine don't bloom until summer and fall, but watch carefully and you will see the spikes when they come. It takes quite a while for the spike to grow and then the buds to form, and then the buds to bloom. But it WILL be worth it! Keep us posted!
Nice one! I only have one large Oncidium, a Sharry Baby. It grows like crazy and multiplies its growths a lot. What do you all like to pot your oncidiums in? I love to pot mine in sphag and charcoal in a clay pot.
I have a very large one of a similar type that probably also has crazy roots, but it's been a few months since I moved it into its current pot. It's blooming as I speak, in fact.
